While attending a plein air event in Winter Park, Colorado, I was browsing the streets and courtyards around town and spied this particular group of oriental poppies, “before and after buds,” and azure-blue bachelor buttons in a border garden. Hiking between Mt. Oberlin and Mt. Clements on Logan Pass in Glacier National Park, we found ourselves midst a profusion of wildflowers, so many and so dense, there was barely a speck of green, and I didn’t even try to include that many in the painting! Exploring a winding, back-country, dirt road outside of Telluride, Colorado, as the light was fading, we realized we didn’t truly know where were, and hoped our basic map would tell us how to get back to Telluride before dark. After a long, hot day of hiking in Glacier National Park, we set out on our last hike of the day for a cool change. On the east side of the park, just past St. Mary’s Falls, a short hike will take one through sun-dappled, evergreen forest and along a gurgling stream to Virginia Falls. Dropping into shallow, aqua pools strewn with pebbles of all colors, it’s cooling mist was a refreshing change to our earlier day of hiking. For Sale. $6200.
