2. What Stories These Walls Could Tell 18 x 24 Oil… It was May, many years ago, that I first rode on horseback into Canyon de Chelly and Canyon del Muerto with four other artists to camp and paint for nearly a week. Since then I have always wanted to return in winter when the low sun and long shadows of winter, along with the myriad colors of snow would complement the drama of the soaring, red rock walls. Watching for a snow forecast, we had just the right opportunity over New Years with a private guide for two days. And what an adventure it was, being able to venture via jeep, ever so slowly, to the far end of both canyons in early morning light and late afternoon light each day. What a wealth of history, myths and legends we heard about the dwelling ruins, battles, special hiding places, historic life styles or even tales spun about the geologic shapes of rocks, cracks, crevices and walls where recesses like this would be used for grain storage. 5. Stormlight Glimmer 20 x 24… Out of Many Glacier on the east side of Glacier National Park, Bullhead Lake nestles near the end of the Redrock Lake Trail at the base of Swiftcurrent Pass. Storm clouds break and swirl around the shrouded circle of peaks throwing bold patterns of brilliant sun and shadow while gleaming sparkles dance over the water. Propped on a rock for our trail lunch, we could barely make out thin filaments of long, tumbling waterfalls across the lake for a stunning backdrop to the constantly changing light and drama in front of us.
