Behind a major mansion that I stayed at for a week, while in Kilarney, Ireland, out back was this large pastoral area, perhaps a race track at one time, that consisted of a raised wall, wide enough to walk on, bound on one side with ancient beech trees, and on the other side, azaleas that were taller than two story houses! This "wall - path" went around maybe a mile or so, coming back to it's beginning. After walking for perhaps an hour, in awe, I found myself back at the beginning, and this magnificent Beech tree! Wish I had a person included, to show it's massive size! A few years ago, I was granted an "Artist in Residence for Glacier Nat'l Park". In which I was given a cabin overlooking a wonderful lake, for an entire 2 weeks of freedom, painting to all hours of the evening, and all locations! In exchange the Park accepted one of my creations for payment! As with almost ALL THE LANDSCAPES in this section, being for "WESTERN ART COLLECTORS" , 95% of the landscapes presented here are from the West. Ok, a couple a tad further than the California coast: Catalina Island, and yep one a tad further: from Ireland....but for the BEAUTY to share!! Why not!! ;+)

Long ago taken home to a patron's collection. Again, another scene with water...this time, the far side of Catalina Island...out there in the Blue Pacific!! And should you want this, it can still be ordered as a canvas giclee, to whatever size you would desire!!!

Another capture at the Park! Glad I was there early in the year, so the snow was still dominating and bringing that extra beauty to put on my canvas! Like a couple of other "plein air captures" this piece seemed to take off, as the sky continued to explode as the lowering sun lit up the clouds, giving full support to the "diamond" in the rough, along the water's edge! I am often surprised how I ever got that large of a painting completed, as the light continued to change from what I started with, to this "jewel" in the northern mountains of California. It is still available, and also canvas giclee prints are offered...you just need to let us know what size, and we'll get back to you!!! And all canvas giclees are in editions of only 50! These small high quality porcelains were initially made for circuit board for computers! By the same company that made the exterior porcelain heat shields for the Space Shuttle! They are no longer made. Heck, look at that cell phone you have in your hand! It talks, it walks, it photographs, it does just about everything except the dishes!! This little guy is the size of your credit card!! SO, nope they do NOT make circuit boards like they use to, thus no need for these little gems! Thank goodness I discovered them, gosh 40 years ago (heck, am I THAT old!)...the same year that Charles and Di got married...actually THE DAY they got married! I'm just so thankful I found who the creators were, and ordered ever size they had available. This is one of the smallest (also a 3x3)....and the largest is a 5x7 inch. They are NOT glazed, very porous, so they absorb the oil paint and make a really good bonding..

Well, for those who love "Western", don't want to disappoint you...so here is a horse for ya! Sure these two little gals don't mind sharing! Years ago, I use to go to Mountain Man Rendezvous, and would set out a trade blanket for beads and other hand made items. And something special: set up my paints so that I could do 16x12 oils of any buckskinner that could hold still long enough!! THAT was my JOY! Painting from life These two young girls grabbed this little pony when it young blond haired owner, jumped off and just took off! The two calling "Rebecca" ever so often, but I really don't think they cared if she came back!! Neither did I!! As with any animal creation, I work from my own reference, in the studio, to whatever size I feel it needs to be! This creation can be ordered as a canvas Giclee print (editions of 50 only), to whatever size you prefer!!

When the morning light first hits a landscape, when the sun peaks around the top of a hill, the light can be quite intense! I have never been an artist that wants or even knows how, to exaggerate a color. But this creation comes close to just that! I often looked at this and wondered where the heck did I find that color...besides on my palette! I really went out on a limb (excuse the expression) when I "went for it"! Willing to even scrape off the paint, if it did not work. BUT, I think this one got the best out of me!! Also available as a canvas giclee print. A two week sojourn for me at Montana's Glacier Nat'l Park, brought me some wonderful hours of not only gazing, but enjoying the beauty of that Park!! And it was somewhat off season, so like having the park all to myself! In exchange for the two weeks, the Park now has one of my paintings in their collection. Another capture from Glacier Park Montana, during a 2 week Artist in Residence I was granted! Given a cabin by a lake, and roamed that park for 2 weeks, from sunrise to sunset! Created on the Far side of Catalina Island, has been in a private collection for a number of years. Created entirely on location, known as a "plein air painting". In North Idaho, there are many lakes, just about every turn of the road. This one is up towards Canada, north of Priest River, known as Priest Lake, with it's infamous rock: Chimney Rock seen on the shadow side of the peak! Yes, this entire painting was done on location (known as a plein air capture), and on my hands and knees. Thank goodness it had not rained for a few days!! I created these on panels that are 24" wide....that way I've been able to do 10 foot tall paintings, and still get them out of one location, to another, without the use of a moving truck! AND should you want a painting like this, on one panel, that is your choice, and then YOU will have to come and get it!!

Walton was one of the few artists that did "remarques" on his prints when framed (that is extending the image onto the matted area of the framed print), to the extent that he did. This is an original, and he decided to extend the original into the linen liner of the frame! TOTALLY UNIQUE, and one of a kind!!

Sometimes when the sky lights up, and the paints are ready, powerfully colorful pieces like this spring out of my brush!! The secret: Paint FAST! No time to futz around!! The dark silhouette of trees helps support the powerful light show the sky had that moment! All of my "mural size" painting (all landscapes are done on location, yes on my hands & knees!) are created in 24" widths, so that they can be handled easier, than one large unit. This painting, for those familiar with Sandpoint Idaho, I was at the back corner of the Panada Theater, painting this piece, the day before these cottonwoods were chopped down, to make room for the bypass!! The clouds may have been done the same day, or I may have taken a number of my 16x20 plein air cloud paintings, and finished this up in the studio. BUT pretty much doubt it! Why? because the great color in the clouds and the sky that surround them...that much gentle color, cannot be captured from any photograph!! And should you like it, but not want the divisions (the black lines separating each canvas)...I can use this as a study, to create one the size you would like. BUT, you have to have a rig, to move it from my studio to your home or office!!

Many years ago I use to travel to the mountains to partake in Mountain Man Rendezvous! This capture was from that time period, and the original is long given a home in a patron's collection of art! This little jewel has a new home in an Eastern State, and hangs with several of my cloud paintings...by a fella who spent his career "up there in the clouds", working for an air lines!! This little guy is the size of your credit card! The porcelain is porous, so it absorbs and make a great bond with the oil paint. Being so small all the ones that I create, come framed...this one is exceptionally handsome ~ the frame carries the great energy of this bison! If you are interested in your pets, or even grand children having their "portraits" done in this small intimate method, feel free to contact us. These would be the ONLY PHOTOS that I would work from, that of your treasures! .... For all other portraits, be they animals or people, I will only work from my own photos!!

First time in a few dozen years that I've ever submitted any of my paintings to a nat'l "competition"....< not even sure this was a "competition"...but they did hand out some sweet acknowledgements! Many artists claim their paintings to be "plein air", which means it was done on location, and NOT in the studio and NOT from photo reference. This one call for entries, had one section titled: "PLEIN AIR AORK ONLY"...so thought I'd toss one out there, and see what happened. Well, guess there was not a lot of competition, because "most plein air" creations may have been started on location, but finished in the studio. ALL of my plein air landscapes are done on location. Even the large mural size > 24" x 36/46/60 or even 10 feet tall!! ALL are done on location, on my hands and knees. As for the "studio" merely touching up smears or a few inches that needed "tweeking"...but not more than 10 or 15 minutes worth, and then signing and framing the creation. So, yes it was a surprise to be honored with the "Best Plein Air Work Only Award"!! Canvas giclee prints are available at this time...and perhaps sometime in the future, or to the "right" patron, I may consider letting this one go!!

Many boats are put to rest over the winter months. Either for storage or to be worked on, and prepared for next summer's outtings! This was in the Catalina boat yard a few years back. And it can be made into any size canvas giclee you choose. Contact us, and let's talk!!
