Oil
20 x 24 inches (L x W)
A fall trip to explore the San Juan mountains near Telluride, Colorado, took us by ranch country at the base of the unusual and jagged mountains. Long, long fall shadows sweep across meandering fields already cut and harvested for winter, while a few remaining, lavender asters and dried, grass seedheads along with the ranch buildings brilliantly catch the last rays of sun and silhouette against the deep shadows.

2. Lavender Twilight
Darcie Peet
Oil
24 x 24 inches (L x W)
Returning from a long day exploring in the Canadian Rockies, our drive home from Jasper to Moraine Lake Lodge took us along the Icefields Parkway and meandering Bow River. Almost out of daylight the landscape was transformed into many soft shades of muted purple, lavender and blue creating such a sense of utter quiet and stillness. This sense of calm was only interrupted by the remnants of sun brilliantly gleaming across the many zigzagging water channels creating linear, ribbon patterns of light across the broad river plain.

3. Something's Coming-Monument Valley
Darcie Peet
Oil
20 x 24 inches (L x W)
Frigid days of winter bring all kinds of blues and purples in snow shadows for such a striking contrast against the otherwise red rock cliffs and formations of Monument Valley. With the sun just dipping below the horizon, the legendary valley is draped in moody shadow, yet billowing clouds edged in the day’s last light foretell of another snowstorm mounting.
For Sale. $4500. Available at Settlers West Gallery, 6420 N. Campbell Ave. Tucson, AZ 85718, 520-299-2607 www.settlerswest.com www.darciepeet.com
4. Rain Clouds Gliding Away
Darcie Peet
Oil
20 x 30 inches (L x W)
After a tumultuous, summer storm in the desert, all is fresh and sweet smelling as clouds dimmish, flatten and quietly glide away at the end of the day. Reflective remnants of rain still thread the desert road in Saguaro National Monument West, outside of Tucson, AZ.
For Sale $5200. Available at Settlers West Gallery, 6420 N. Campbell Ave. Tucson, AZ 85718, 520-299-2607 www.settlerswest.com www.darciepeet.com
5. Last Color. First Snow
Darcie Peet
Oil
20 x 20 inches (L x W)
Cycling in East Vail during the fall is full of jewel-tone surprises. Yellow cinquefoil still blooms this late along with lavender asters. Grasses, weeds and drying fireweed wildflowers add all sorts of pinks, siennas and wine tones amongst the sun-struck grasses surrounding the pond. Aspen can be all sorts of colors this time of year from lingering green to all sorts of golds and oranges along with their colorful trunks in and out of shadow. Fading slivers of early season snow echo the blues and lavenders of the many background aspen trunks. What a time to walk, hike or cycle in the Colroado Mountains!
