1. History Whispers in the Clouds
Darcie Peet
Oil
17 x 30 inches (L x W)
Over New Years, snow had blanketed Monument Valley creating stunning lavender and blue snow shadows set against brilliant, warm white snow in sunshine, all contrasted against the dramatic, red rock cliff monuments. The soft blanket of snow created an eerie silence across the valley while drifting clouds slowly lifting from a nighttime storm seemed to whisper of the history and legend that fills the valley.

Darcie Peet

18 x 24 inches (L x W)
Tumultuous, summer monsoon clouds rise over the east side of Colorado’s Gore Range scattering broad shadows across ranchlands and foothills. Summer rains have made for bountiful daisies along fencelines edging the ranch road. Still deep in foreground shadow, the gravel road soon emerges into bright sunlight as it winds closer to the cluster of main ranch buildings in the distance.

3. September's Change
Darcie Peet
Oil
20 x 30 inches (L x W)
By mid-September, aspen summer greens are beginning to warm, and a few here and there are already turning yellow. It’s that time of year. Once tall, rich green, stream-side and meadow grasses are drooping and fading into tans and siennas. Rich, magenta Fireweed wildflowers go to seed and are equally as stunning as they turn into long, wispy, delicate, white and light pink fluffs. Late afternoon shadows are long while early snow tips the ridges of high peaks of the Ten Mile Range near Copper Mountain, Colorado. Even the clouds change shape this time of year, foretelling of winter season not too far off. For sale. $5300. Available at The Broadmoor Galleries, 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80906. 719-577-5744, www.broadmoorgalleries.com/darcie-peet/ www.darciepeet.com

What a day to be hiking… Crystal blue sky with just a smattering of windswept, high clouds on an autumn day rich in color all around. Sunshine Meadows outside of Banff in Banff National Park, Canadian Rockies, is described as a “wonderland for hiking with its lush cover of vegetation, and over 300 species of wildflowers have been recorded.” Groundcovers and grasses display a vivid range of fall hues from golds to siennas and red-oranges. Feathery, delicate fronds of Tamarack turned autumn gold contrast against darker evergreen and the deep, aqua blues of several alpine lakes along the loop trails which we explored
